On the Mud at Triadelphia Reservoir

I missed the semipalmated sandpiper reported at the reservoir's Big Branch area this week, but on Thursday I found some other picturesque wildlife there. Besides the 40 plus Canada geese, I counted 11 tiger swallowtails on the mud and a nearby buttonbush -- a good count for a summer which has been slow for butterflies so far.

National Mall Snapshots before the Fireworks

After visiting the National Gallery of Art in DC on Saturday, I took a long stroll down the Mall to the Lincoln Memorial. Preparations for the fireworks were in evidence.
