We have Tiger Swallowtails

Eastern Tiger Swallowtails and Swallowtail butterflies in general were scarce around Lake Kittamaqundi last summer. This year, I've already seen a few in May, which is encouraging. Yesterday, two showed up in separate spots as I was walking around the lake with just my compact camera. Both were puddling and allowed some good snapshots.

The first few photos here show the one that appeared at the boat landing at the lake's southern end.

(It's visible on the mud in center foreground above.)

In flight, upper right corner. It gave some of the goslings something to think about while they were feeding in the water.

The second one showed up while I was off the path, looking around on this shoal in the Little Patuxent River next to the lake.
