Redhead Duck, etc.
On Centennial Lake this weekend...It's another diver, too, if you're trying to photograph it. Adult male in breeding plumage. My first one. (Earlier this winter, I photographed juvenile redheads on Kittamaqundi.)
Canvasbacks and ringnecks were on Centennial, too, and more buffleheads.
When the lakes are mostly frozen, the pond below the dam at Lake Elkhorn is another good place to look for winter visitors mixing with the usual mallards and Canada geese. Kittamaqundi was mostly frozen over this week, as was Elkhorn above its dam. Wilde Lake currently has a stretch of open water like Centennial.
