Upcoming Concerts and Operas ~ Lanting and Glass at the BSO Again!

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's January calendar shows a return of a stunning musical and photographic display they did a few years ago, soon after Alsop took up the baton on a regular basis for the orchestra. It's a giant moving slide presentation of National Geographic photographer Frans Lanting's work set to music by Philip Glass. I think I might be there to enjoy it again near the end of this month. Also on the program and fitting the theme is Beethoven's 6th, the Pastoral Symphony.

Also of interest at the BSO is this week's program of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 and Richard Strauss' "Also Sprach Zarathustra". Among recitals at An die Musik: Pianist Irina Nuzova this Saturday at 2pm. Nuzova's program includes Rachmaninov's Corelli variations.

Looking a bit ahead, wondering what my next opera ticket will be: Peabody Opera sets out to do Dominick Argento's "Postcard from Morocco" later in February for their annual chamber opera production at Theatre Project, and I'm looking at options for "Le Nozze di Figaro" and "Faust" at Lyric Opera Baltimore this spring.

I have not been to any staged opera since last August, when I saw Richard Strauss' "Die Liebe der Danae" at Bard Summerscape in the Hudson Valley. A card from Bard says they're doing Emanuel Chabrier's "Le Roi malgre lui" (The King in spite of himself) at Summerscape 2012.

#1 Opera Cat continues to do quite well, all things considered, as I take care of him during his dreadful illness. There was even a successful stay at his boarding place while I went on a short visit to family this past weekend.
